This month marks two years since Highlife artiste, Dada Hafco released a song. And he is back to make up for the long silence with his latest song, Konongo Kaya.
The new tune which dropped on Friday, November 14, was produced by DDT and features the slick guitar skills of Dominic Quarchie.
The song explores the dynamics of relationships, highlighting the distinct roles partners play.
Konongo Kaya adds to the interesting conversation about relationships and deception. The song tackles the tough topic of people pretending to be in love for personal gain, with Dada Hafco calling out both women and men for their roles in this drama. In the song, Dada Hafco takes aim at men who use fake promises to manipulate women, often citing lines like “I would have married you if I had met you earlier” or “I came to Ghana to look for a wife”, all while having families abroad.
He highlights the emotional toll these lies take on people’s mental health and cautions listeners to desist from faking love.
“It’s interesting how people toil with the emotions of others, leading to depression and mental breakdowns caused by insincerity.
“We need to stop pretending to be in love just to benefit from each other. These lies are taking a toll on our mental health, and it’s time to be honest,” Dada Hafco said. Dada Hafco explained that his brief absence from the scene was to attend to family matters and carefully craft music that will stand the test of time.
Since going solo and rebranding as a Highlife artiste after the breakup of Nframa group, Dada Hafco, whose real name is Terry Asare Boamah, has been a good ambassador for the genre.
With good songs such as Musuo, Fall Down, Our Story among others, he mentioned that Ghana should jealously guard the genre which was gaining stronger roots among the younger generation.
