I never take anything for granted, says Bawumia as he engages delegates nationwide…

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said he does not take anything for granted in politics and remains committed to working hard to secure the support of delegates of the New Patriotic Party ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31.

Despite being widely regarded as the favourite in the race, Dr Bawumia said he believes respect for party delegates demands personal engagement and sustained campaigning across the country.

Speaking in an interview with Spear FM in Damongo during his campaign tour of the Savannah Region, the former Vice President said hard work remains central to political success.

“I never take anything for granted. In politics you have to keep working hard until everything is done,” Dr Bawumia said.

He disclosed that his campaign had already covered most parts of the country, noting that the Savannah Region marked a significant stop in his outreach.

“I am touring virtually all the 276 constituencies and the Savannah Region is the 13th region that I have toured.”

Dr Bawumia expressed gratitude to God for the strength to sustain what he described as an intense nationwide campaign, adding that the message he was sharing with party members had been positively received.

So far, he has toured 13 of the 16 regions, with the Northern, Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions yet to be covered.

During the same interview, Dr Bawumia made a passionate appeal to NPP delegates to vote for him based on his competence, track record and vision rather than regional considerations.

“I’m asking for the support of our NPP delegates. I’m campaigning that’s why I’m in the region. I’m asking for their support on January 31st that they should look at voting for me on the basis, not that because I’m from the north; we don’t vote on that.”

“They should vote for me on the basis of my track record, of my competence, of my integrity and of the vision that I have for the country and of the experience.”

He appealed particularly to delegates in the Savannah Region, the northern part of the country and across the nation, urging them to assess his leadership qualities and experience accumulated during his time in office.

Dr Bawumia said his record as Vice President demonstrated his readiness to lead the country, arguing that his performance under the Akufo Addo administration had been widely acknowledged.

“Under Akufo-Addo, I’ve been adjudged by many people to be the most effective Vice President in the history of this country – a big acknowledgement of the track record of what I have done.”

“And I want the delegates to help me to be one of the most effective Presidents in the history of the country so I need their support and I’m asking for their support on January 31.”

Expressing confidence in his leadership prospects, Dr Bawumia said he was convinced the NPP could return to power under his stewardship after the 2028 general election.

“I believe that this party, the NPP, under my leadership will come back to power after the 2028 election. We are going to work hard for them and work hard for the people of Ghana. I want them to have their trust in me and I will deliver victory in 2028, by the grace of God.”
