Expert calls for women’s inclusion in cybersecurity…

A Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Specialist for TAG International, Francesca Quirke, has emphasised the urgent need to address online violence against women and ensure their meaningful participation in shaping the country’s cybersecurity landscape.

She said the inequalities prevalent in the physical world were increasingly manifesting in digital spaces.

This, she said was threatening the safety and participation of vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls.

“There’s a lot of inequality that exists in the physical world that is translating into the online space. We need to address this inequality to create a safe and secure world where diverse voices are represented and online harms are actively countered,” she stated

Workshop

Ms Quirke made the call at the opening of three-day workshop dubbed: “Cyber Security 360” in Accra as part of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025.

It was organised by the Women in Cybersecurity West Africa (WiCyWA) in partnership with the Cybersecurity Authority (CSA) with support from AG International through the UK Government’s FCDO Africa Cyber Programme.

On the theme: “Building a Safe, Informed and Accountable Digital Space – Strengthening Our Human Firewall,” it brought together policymakers, cybersecurity experts, and gender advocates to address the growing threats in the digital landscape and explore strategies for creating a more inclusive digital future for Ghana.
