Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore detained by police …

Former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore, 39, was detained by police in Michigan on Wednesday evening just hours after being fired “with cause” by the university following an internal investigation that found “credible evidence” he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

Authorities said the City of Saline Police Department located and detained Moore, later turning him over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department, which is investigating an alleged assault that led to his custody.

The incident was described as non-random, with no ongoing threat to the community, and Moore was lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges.

Moore’s firing marks an abrupt end to his two-season tenure as head coach, during which he compiled a 16-8 record after replacing Jim Harbaugh.

The programme has named Biff Poggi as interim head coach ahead of Michigan’s upcoming bowl game.

The investigation into the alleged assault and any potential charges remains ongoing.

“Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member,” Michigan said in a statement. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
