Former Minister of Energy and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Running Mate, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has made an appeal to party members to throw their support behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party prepares to elect its next flagbearer.
Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, said Dr. Bawumia remained the best candidate to lead the NPP to reclaim victory in the next general elections, describing him as a symbol of progress and service within the party’s long-standing tradition.
“I urge all members and delegates to stand firmly behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead our great tradition into the next chapter of progress and service,” Opoku Prempeh said in a post shared on Facebook.
Napo, who has been engaging party executives and supporters in the Ashanti Region over the past few days, emphasised that unity was essential for the NPP to consolidate its strength ahead of the 2028 elections. He said when members worked together in the spirit of loyalty and discipline, the party could overcome any challenge.
“When we rally behind the elephant with unity of purpose, there are no limits to the victories we can achieve together,” he stated.
His comments come as the NPP intensifies preparations for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026. Five candidates have been cleared to contest in the race: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President under the Akufo-Addo administration, is seeking to become the NPP’s next flagbearer, promising to unify the party and drive Ghana’s transformation through technology and economic innovation.
